Amrop concludes search for 9 independent Board Members for the Supervisory Boards of Latvia’s three biggest hospitals
The assignment was conducted on behalf of the Latvian Ministry of Health. According to the mandate, each Supervisory Board will comprise three executives. Their overall task is to support digitization, process optimization, fundraising and efficiencies in clinical management, facilitating the modern and efficient management of health care institutions that provides quality and high-level service.
The establishment of independent, international Supervisory Boards is part of a general corporate governance drive in Latvia, with both the process and outcome intended to set a wider example in the country’s institutions and companies. In a push for greater transparency, each search was conducted via an open competition following a public announcement by the Ministry of Health last year.
The three institutions served are: Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital (PSKUS), the Children's Clinical University Hospital (BKUS) and the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital (RAKUS)
Together the nine new independent members bring a critical range of expertise to their Supervisory Boards, covering three domains. The first is change management: centralizing and streamlining operations to implement unified process management and identifying next-generation leaders, as well as supporting management in innovations and implementation of digital transformation. The second is finance: providing the necessary support in attracting funding, exercising control and supervision. Healthcare, the third domain, involves implementing models for good practice in hospital management, patient safety systems, science and research.
Amrop helped to set up the process of recruitment and assessment of candidates for the Supervisory Board positions, facilitated discussions involving the Ministry leadership team and hospital management as well as external stakeholders, designing requirements and candidate profiles, conducting the market mapping, selection and evaluation of candidates, with open applications also invited. In a three-round process, screening was followed by a detailed reputation check, with evaluation of management skills, and feedback. In the final round, candidates presented to the Nominations Committee their vision of the hospital’s major future challenges, insights into key priorities, and proposals for implementation.
